This work is being carried out by the Department for Education (DfE). For the purpose of data protection legislation, the DfE is the data controller for the personal data processed as part of the Teach in Further Education website.
Mentions of “us” and “we” mean DfE and “you” means anyone using this website.
We have created services that let you sign up to receive email updates and marketing content about teaching in further education, and request support by email or telephone.
When you provide us with your personal data, we process it (and add it to our email subscription list if applicable). These services will help you to make an informed decision about becoming a further education teacher.
When you sign up to receive updates or request support by email, we will only collect the following details about you:
The information you provide to us will be sent to our DfE team and you will be added to our distribution list to receive email updates.
We are also exploring providing further services to users such as specific support such as events for users that work in a specific industry or location, or providing targeted content to users depending on the stage of the journey they are on or the subject they are interested in teaching.
We may also contact you to gauge your interest in taking part in market research. Each message will give you the opportunity to unsubscribe from taking part in market research.
If you request support via the support email or telephone helpline, your details will be sent to our team of teacher training advisers to enable them to deal with your request.
The information we collect from you (such as your name, contact details, subject you are interested in teaching, how close you are applying for a teaching role and where you live) is used for identification, administration and analysis purposes. This allows us to ensure that public funds are being spent effectively.
We will save the above data on a list, but no other data that you may inadvertently supply will be saved, for example data in your email signature.
In each email update you receive, you will be given the opportunity to unsubscribe from further communications.
Each time we sent you a newsletter we will give you the option to unsubscribe from our mailing list. We will also review all data on a quarterly basis to ensure that any other personal data has been permanently destroyed.
In order for our use of your personal data to be lawful, we need to meet one (or more) conditions in the data protection legislation.
For the purpose of this project the relevant condition is Article 6(1)(a) – that you have given your consent.
We sometimes need to make personal data available to other organisations. These might include contracted partners (who we have employed to process your personal data on our behalf) and / or other organisations (with whom we need to share your personal data for specific purposes).
Where we need to share your personal data with others, we ensure that this data sharing complies with data protection legislation. For the purpose of this project, we may share your data with TPUK (Teleperformance UK) to deliver our support service.
The Department for Education will keep your personal data as part of the Teach in Further Education website for 5 years. We will review your consent annually and delete this information if you request us to do so.
More information about how the DfE handles personal information is published in the Personal Information Charter.
Under the Data Protection Act 2018, you are entitled to ask if we hold information relating to you and ask for a copy, by making a ‘subject access request’.
For further information and how to request your data, please use the contact form on the Personal Information Charter website.
If you need to contact us regarding any of the above, please do so via the DfE website and mention the Teach in Further Education website.
Further information about your data protection rights appears on the Information Commissioner’s website.
Where we are processing your personal data with your consent, you have the right to withdraw that consent. If you change your mind, or you are unhappy with our use of your personal data, please let us know by using the DfE website and mention the Teach in Further Education website.
Alternatively, you have the right to raise any concerns on the Information Commissioner’s website.
We may need to update this privacy notice periodically, so we recommend that you revisit this information from time to time. This version was last updated on 17/10/2023.
